The boy is tired of being thought of as a little kid he wants to be thought of as a man. A lot of kids what to stop being treated as little kids and taken serious. "Yes, black people always do. We persevere. We always suffer in silence." This has some truth to it, but not only the blacks. The Latino people have suffered more than any other race in the world.
